ZESA Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd (ZENT)

INTRODUCTION

ZESA Enterprises (Private) Limited (ZENT) is a 100% owned subsidiary of ZESA Holdings, the country’s national power utility. ZENT was incorporated in Zimbabwe in 2004 as an unregulated investment arm of ZESA Holdings (Pvt) Ltd with a mandate to support the electricity industry. ZENT comprises three operational divisions, namely; Manufacturing, Projects, Transport and Logistics.

The company is strategically positioned to serve the local market and the SADC region since it is at the epicenter of the SADC region. It enjoys the ZESA group's synergistic relationship with the generation, transmission, and distribution sister companies.

HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT

The power sector reform in Zimbabwe witnessed the establishment of the Electricity Act, Chapter 13:20 of 2002, and the Rural Electrification Fund Act Chapter 13:19 of 2002 which provides for the establishment of the Zimbabwe Electricity Regulatory Commission, Rural Electrification Agency and the formation of ZESA Holdings and its subsidiary companies namely Zimbabwe Power Company, Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company, Powertel and ZESA Enterprises.The Electricity Act provides for the transfer of assets, liabilities, and staff to the subsidiary companies which are incorporated under the Companies Act Chapter 24:03 and operate on commercial lines. The subsidiary companies are 100% owned by ZESA Holdings on behalf of the Government of Zimbabwe.
